Setauket Energy Storage

Town of Brookhaven's New Era of Energy: Reliable, Renewable, Resilient

/ about the project

Setauket Energy Storage Project is a proposed 65 MW, 4-hour battery energy storage facility in the unincorporated hamlet of Setauket, in the Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County, New York. The Project expects to have a positive impact on the local economy and community. The Facility will store electricity that will be dispatched to LIPA’s local grid during peak demand hours or during emergency outages and will be able to power the equivalent of approximately 13,100 homes. It will significantly enhance local land use through its Site redevelopment, improved local LIPA electric service reliability, and new property tax revenues aimed to support the Three Village School District, Fire Districts, and the funding of public works within the Town of Brookhaven. Setauket Energy Storage’s construction phase will provide up to 50 new construction jobs with an estimated construction timeline of 12-to-16 months. We’re proud to offer clean, reliable energy solutions for greater Long Island, including the Town of Brookhaven.

Community
benefits

Battery energy storage facilities make great neighbors. They are quiet, clean, and safe. Unlike other types of industrial development, they do not pose a strain on public infrastructure, schools, or emergency services. Setauket Storage will contribute to New York State’s movement to lessen dependence on fossil fuel sources and move toward renewable energy sources, thereby improving air quality and the environment for local residents.

Setauket Storage will be a true “silent revenue generator” that benefits the entire community over several decades. These types of facilities generate local property taxes, which can help fund the Three Village School District and local fire districts.  Battery energy storage facilities can also lead to long-term cost savings for consumers by lowering the overall cost of providing electricity and allowing customers to avoid paying premium pricing or “peak demand” rates.
